Good Old Fashioned Pound Cake
Ingredients:
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
½ cup vegetable shortening
3 cups sugar
6 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 teaspoon lemon extract
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan.
In a large bowl, beat butter and shortening until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed for 5 to 7 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating just until yellow disappears.
In a small bowl, combine flour and baking powder; add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. After each addition, mix at low speed just until blended after each addition. Stir in flavorings.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a tester inserted into center comes out clean. Cover cake loosely with foil after 30 minutes of baking to prevent excess browning. Cool in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes; remove from pan and let cool completely.
