French 75
The French 75 cocktail is a bubbly drink from World War I with ties to Parisian café life. Named after a strong French field gun, it contains gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and Champagne. It's a refreshing favorite for celebrations, capturing the joy of life in every sip.
Ingredients:
1 ounce gin
½ ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
½ ounce simple syrup
3 ounces Champagne (or other sparkling wine)
Garnish: lemon twist
Preparation:
Add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled..
Strain into a Champagne flute.
Top with the Champagne or sparkling wine of choice.
Garnish with a lemon twist.
Cook’s Note:
You can make simple syrup by adding one cup sugar with one cup water. Bring to a boil and let cool. Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator. It will keep one month.
For a delicious variation on the French 75, add dried lavender flowers to the simple syrup. Bring the sugar and water to a boil. Add the lavender and remove from heat. Steep for about 15 minutes. Strain dried flowers from syrup prior to cooling. This will keep for about 2 weeks in the refrigerator
